Our purpose
Why this company exists
A purpose statement is only worth writing if it can be used to settle an argument. This one is written to be used.
Our purpose
Femieko exists to make intimate care safe for the body, accessible to every woman, and less costly to the planet. We develop reusable and organic products that give people real choice across every stage of life, and we treat menstrual health as something to be understood openly rather than managed in silence.
Menstruation is a natural part of women’s lives all over the world and should not be uncomfortable, expensive or taboo. For us it is about both a healthy body and a happy planet. That sentence has been on our site since the beginning. What follows is what it commits us to.
The five areas we hold ourselves to
Our purpose is not a feeling. It is five specific claims, each of which can be checked.
Safety of the body
Materials chosen for intimate use, documented and traceable. Every product can be traced by its batch number. Composition, use and care are stated on the label so that a choice can be an informed one.
Access, whatever your body needs
One of Europe’s broadest ranges of intimate care, developed for teenagers, for heavy flow, for the postpartum period and for incontinence. Different bodies need different solutions, and a narrow range is a form of exclusion.
Education instead of silence
Free guides for young people, parents and teachers, and sponsored teaching kits in partner schools. Shame and confusion are health problems, and information is the treatment.
Less waste, by design
Reusable products are built to last, which reduces raw material use, waste and transport. Packaging is designed down rather than decorated up.
Fair work behind the product
We work with audited manufacturers who comply with labour law and ethical standards where production takes place. We do not accept forced labour or child labour anywhere in our supply chain.
And the test we apply
If a decision improves margin but weakens any of the five above, it needs a better reason than margin. That is the whole point of writing this down.
How this changes what we actually do
Four examples, so this reads as a working document rather than a wall plaque.
- We keep an organic disposable range, even though reusables are better for the planet and better for us commercially. Not everyone can switch, and a purpose about access cannot only serve the people who can.
- We publish what we have not solved. Our impact page carries a standing section on the things we cannot yet evidence. It costs us something to publish it, which is exactly why it belongs there.
- We test before we claim. Where we do not hold a test report, we describe what we do rather than what the product is. The difference matters and we hold ourselves to it in our marketing.
- We give a fixed share, not a leftover share. One per cent of revenue to FILIA and one per cent of sales to Iele Sânziene are set as a proportion, so they do not shrink in a difficult quarter.
Who is answerable for this
Femieko is a small company. Around ten people work here, and the founder is also the administrator. That concentration is a real limitation and we would rather name it than dress it up.
The purpose above was formally adopted by the shareholders of FemiEko Group SRL. The Administrator is accountable for applying it and reports on it once a year to the shareholders, alongside the concerns we have received, our progress on climate and the state of our supply chain. That annual review is minuted.
This page is reviewed at least once a year and whenever the business changes in a way that affects it.
